father.”

My attention sharpened.

“What did it say?”

“That he intended North Star interests to pass through his family.”

“Do we have day.

The document looked old.

Thomas Vale letterhead.

My father’s typed name.

A signature at the bottom.

The text stated that Vale-related interests in North Star arrangements should remain available for his descendants as part of long-term family planning.

I knew immediately something was wrong.

My father never used the phrase long-term family planning in financial documents.

Too vague.

Too polished.

Too unlike him.

The signature looked better than some of the other forgeries.

But the date was impossible.

It was supposedly written eighteen years before my father died.

The letterhead belonged to a consulting firm he did not establish until five years later.

Gavin stared when shown the discrepancy.

“I didn’t know that.”

“No.”

“I believed this one.”

“I believe you believed it.”

He looked at me.

That was important.

The forged letter had given him psychological permission.

If Thomas Vale intended descendants to hold interests, then perhaps my name on Northstar was not fraud.

Perhaps the strange signature was merely incomplete paperwork.

Perhaps Lydia was telling the truth.

Except Victor had warned him.

His private lawyer had warned him.

And he still chose the interpretation that let him continue.

“Who created the died.

Creator account:

ESH-Legal.

Evelyn Shaw.

I almost admired the consistency.

Evelyn was questioned through formal channels.

This time her answer came through counsel.

She admitted preparing the false letter.

At Lydia’s request.

“Why?” I asked Adrian.

“To support continuity of Vale victims and participants sequentially.

Gavin had inherited deception.

Then perpetuated it.

Celia had inherited deception and rejected it once she understood.

My mother had signed a bad authorization, then lived under its consequences.

My father moved client funds without permission, then spent years trying to repair the damage.

Nobody was one thing.

The next batch of Victor’s emails showed something else.

Three months before I filed, Gavin sent Lydia:

Do not renew the Sloane policy.

My pulse
