percent.”

“Yes.”

“Millions.”

“Yes.”

“So they took one true thread and wove a false ownership story around it.”

“Exactly.”

That explained why the fraud survived audits.

Pure fiction is fragile.

Distorted truth is stronger.

My father had an interest.

I was his daughter.

Some assets descended from that interest.

Therefore, on paper, attaching my name could look plausible.

Until someone asked whether I knew.

Whether I agreed.

Whether I signed.

Whether I had ever received disclosure.

The simplest questions destroyed the architecture.

That evening, Evelyn delivered a corrected ownership reconstruction.

At the top she wrote:

No percentage should be treated as final until claims are adjudicated.

For the first time in decades, she stopped pretending administration could manufacture certainty.

Then a separate message arrived from Lydia’s attorney.

Lydia wanted another interview.

Voluntary.

No conditions beyond counsel.

“Why?” I asked Mara.

“She says Anna Ko’s records changed what she is willing to admit.”

“What admission?”

Mara paused.

“Lydia says the modern Northstar plan was not originally hers.”

“Evelyn?”

“No.”

“Marcus?”

“No.”

“Then whose?”

“Gavin’s father.”

I stared.

“Graham?”

“Yes.”

That contradicted almost everything Box 714 suggested.

Either Lydia was lying.

Or the father who had recorded a plan to dismantle the structures had once designed the mechanism that later rebuilt them.

Both could be true.

At different times.

That was the problem with finally learning to distrust simple stories.

Click here to continue reading: PART 32: Lydia’s Last Version
