fathered Lauren, she would be Daniel’s first cousin.

A Mercer by blood.

But not Harold’s direct descendant.

Would that help her trust claim?

Miriam answered before Daniel asked.

“Not under the current language.”

“So her petition fails.”

“If this result holds.”

Daniel finally exhaled.

Then Richard received a court filing alert.

Lauren’s counsel had amended the petition.

Daniel stared.

“She knew.”

Miriam opened it.

Lauren now claimed not to be Harold’s daughter.

She claimed descent from Robert Mercer.

And attached a different legal theory.

Daniel read.

Robert Mercer had allegedly been a co-beneficial founder of Bellmont’s early land holdings before Harold forced him out.

Lauren claimed several strategic properties included in Sophie’s land trust had originally been acquired using Robert’s funds.

Therefore, she argued, Harold never had exclusive authority to transfer them into Sophie’s trust.

Daniel stared at the document.

Lauren had never needed the paternity claim to win.

She had needed it to force discovery.

To open the trust.

To get the court examining bloodlines and property origins.

The Harold claim had been the first door.

Robert Mercer was the second.

And Lauren had just walked through it.

<a
