morning.

By ten-fifteen, we were standing in the superintendent’s office asking what was required to inspect a grave.

The answer was everything we did not have.

Court authorization.

Cemetery approval.

A funeral director.

Documentation showing necessity.

Nobody could simply arrive and ask to open a coffin because a dead woman might have hidden financial evidence inside it.

Edward handled the conversation.

He avoided dramatic language.

He explained potential fraud, disputed estate property, and concern that evidence might have been buried unintentionally.

The superintendent remained unconvinced.

Then Edward showed him the title claim, the forged trust termination, and my wife’s written instruction referencing hidden records.

That moved us from impossible to complicated.

“I still need a court order.”

“How tightened.

“What?”

He turned the monitor.

Someone had already requested grave access.

My wife’s plot had been opened once since coffin?” I asked.

“None.”

The superintendent printed the file.

The work order carried a signature from a former grounds supervisor.

He had retired.

The contractor listed for the excavation no longer existed.

The billing address belonged to an empty storefront.

My son looked at Carol.

She had followed
