claimed without proof.

Marcus and Samuel worked through the first pages together.

I followed as best I could.

Grant had advanced approximately $412,000 over several returned instantly.

“You said no more surprises.”

“I forgot about it.”

“How do you forget a sealed package from a dying man?”

“Because he told me not to open it unless Grant denied the repayments.”

Marcus stood.

“Where is it?”

“In my office safe.”

“What does it say on the outside?”

Samuel thought.

“Something like ‘If Hollis claims balance due.’”

Marcus grabbed his coat.

“We’re getting it.”

Samuel nodded.

Tyler looked alarmed.

“What could be in it?”

Samuel shook his head.

“I genuinely don’t know.”

For once, I believed someone saying those words.

An hour later, Samuel returned with the package.

The seal was intact.

He placed it in front of me.

My name was written across the back.

I opened it.

Inside were photocopies of Grant’s own handwritten ledger pages.

More complete than Evan’s three scans.

There were also deposit records.

William had matched Grant’s private entries to actual bank payments.

At the end sat a one-page calculation.

Grant advances: $412,000.

Verified repayments and benefits: $817,400.

Net overpayment to Grant interests: $405,400.

Marcus stared.

“William had stronger evidence than the red folder.”

Samuel nodded.

Then I saw a final handwritten note.

If Grant still claims Tyler owes him, ask Grant why his own ledger shows PAID beside T.M.

I turned to the copied ledger page.

Near the bottom, beside Tyler’s initials and a date nearly three years before William died, Grant had written a single word.

PAID.

Below it, later entries continued.

Not loan payments.

Different labels.

Pressure.

Cover.

Silence.

Grant’s own ledger showed the moment the relationship changed.

The debt had ended.

The extortion had begun.

Tyler stared at the page.

His face collapsed.

“All these years.”

Jessica looked at him.

“You knew he was threatening you.”

“I didn’t know Dad had proof the debt was paid.”

“You suspected.”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you stop?”

Tyler looked at me.

“Because stopping meant admitting everything.”

I folded William’s note carefully.

“That choice is gone now.”

Tyler nodded.

For the first time since I bought my house, he did not argue.

“What do you want me to do?”

I looked at Marcus.

Then Jessica.

Then Samuel.

Finally at my son.

“Tell Marcus everything. Turn over everything. Stop paying Grant. Stop altering anything. Stop deciding who deserves to know.”

Tyler wiped his eyes.

“And the company?”

“If it can survive the truth, we save it.”

“And if it can’t?”

I thought about William.

About all the money spent buying time.

All the lies told to prevent collapse.

All the damage caused by treating survival as the only measure of success.

“Then we stop sacrificing people to keep it alive.”

Tyler lowered his head.

After a moment, he nodded.

Marcus collected the drive.

Samuel collected the original ledger copies.

Jessica stood.

Tyler looked at her.

“Are you coming home?”

She stared at him for several seconds.

“No.”

His face tightened.

“Where are you going?”

“With Mom.”

Barbara.

For once, Jessica was choosing the person who needed her rather than the person demanding rescue.

Tyler nodded.

He did not argue.

We left Marcus’s office separately.

Outside, night had fallen.

I stood beside my car with William’s copied note in my bag.

My phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

I opened the message.

Mrs. Mercer, Tyler is lying again. Ask him what happened to the original Grant Hollis ledger after William copied it.

A photograph followed.

Tyler stood beside a metal burn barrel.

In his hand was a black leather notebook.

The timestamp was three days after William’s funeral.

Click here to continue reading: PART 25: The Photograph of Tyler Burning Grant’s Ledger Forced Him to Admit Which Evidence He Destroyed—and Who Told Him to Do It

Samuel delivered the red folder personally.
