appeared.

No authorization.

The bank’s signature records also lacked later consent.

Grant had apparently changed account control through entity documentation rather than Barbara’s personal approval.

“How did Tyler become beneficiary?” I asked.

The beneficiary form Barbara remembered was not life insurance.

It was a Tyler’s company.

Where it originated.

That was the part everyone had missed.

Loans looked legitimate when examined from the receiving side.

The source might tell a different story.

For three days, accountants traced transfers.

The results were ugly for Grant.

One $60,000 “Grant advance” originated in Barbara’s escrow.

Another $45,000 came from Meridian revenue already earned through Tyler’s business activity.

A third $30,000 came from an entity funded by Tyler’s own earlier repayments.

Not all of Grant’s loans were fake.

He had contributed real money too.

But far less than the $412,000 William had calculated from face-value documents.

Samuel revised the estimate.

“Actual outside capital attributable to Grant may be closer to two hundred eighty thousand.”

Marcus compared repayments.

“And he received over six hundred ninety before William died.”

“Correct.”

I looked at Tyler.

“He was repaid more than week.

Grant contested the transfer to William’s trust.

His lawyers argued that EM Property Services lawfully owned the property and Grant lawfully acquired EM after debt default.

Samuel’s side argued the pledge Grant relied on was altered.

Ray’s source files supported that.

The genuine signature page William once signed belonged to an operating agreement.

Grant’s version attached it to a membership pledge.

Metadata showed the altered version was created after William died.

That was devastating.

But Grant had another argument.

Even if his ownership claim failed, Tyler’s forty-nine-percent interest in EM might still have been validly pledged.

If so, Grant could claim at least part of the entity.

Marcus explained it to me.

“So he might own forty-nine percent?”

“Possibly.”

“And the trust changed.

He would abandon claims to the industrial land, house lien, municipal renewal rights, and Tyler’s company.

In exchange, Barbara would release her escrow claim.

Ray would not cooperate further.

Tyler would release extortion claims.

And all parties would agree not to refer matters to authorities voluntarily.

I stared
