affair.

Dates.

Arguments.

Promises Ryan made.

Things she wanted to say to him.

It was not automatically proof of every claim.

But one entry I hate that he said it that way.

Then an entry months later:

He keeps talking about Amelia choosing us. I told him children aren't supposed to choose.

I read the line twice.

Claire had understood that before the wedding.

And yet she had still handed Amelia a speech asking her to publicly choose.

That contradiction did not absolve her.

It made her human in the most disappointing way.

She had known better.

Then done worse because the future she wanted depended on it.

Near the back of the notebook was one final entry from the night before the wedding.

Tomorrow everything becomes real. Ryan says once Annie hears Amelia call us her family in front of everyone, she'll finally stop fighting.

I stared at the sentence.

That was why the speech mattered so much.

It had never merely been sentimental.

Ryan intended Amelia's words to become a public declaration.

A room full of witnesses.

A child announcing acceptance of the new family and the move.

He expected me to hear about it afterward and understand resistance was useless.

Instead, Amelia took the microphone and told the truth.

The ceremony did not collapse because a child created chaos.

It collapsed because Ryan gave the one person he had underestimated a microphone.

Click here to continue reading: PART 18: Claire’s Wedding Notebook Explained Why Amelia Was Given the Microphone, and the Guest Video Captured Ryan Saying What He Later Denied

I did not finish Ryan's scheduled email that night.
