business, a wife and children.

Thomas had nothing.

“So you blamed Daniel for moving on,” Peter said.

“He used me.”

“Then you spent thirty-four years using everyone else.”

Silence.

That was the whole disease.

Hurt turned into permission.

Permission into pattern.

Thomas finally said:

“Daniel owed me.”

Exactly like Michael once believed I owed him.

Like Tyler believed my money was his.

Like Rebecca used Claire as shot.

Officers breached immediately.

Thomas was found on the floor.

Alive.

He had fired into a file cabinet.

Not himself.

Behind the cabinet, a randomly.

Deliberately.

Maybe as insult.

Maybe camouflage.

Maybe because Evelyn’s death record could be manipulated through Crowe.

Elaine stepped beside me in the remote feed.

“She doesn't only want to disappear.”

“What?”

“She wants to become someone who can claim family property.”

My stomach tightened.

“Which property?”

Elaine looked at the deed.

The new Evelyn Collins identity was beneficiary of a use it now?”

Peter answered.

“Because the trust owns more than the cabin.”

Records showed a second property.

One Peter had never mentioned.

A commercial vault facility in Pennsylvania.

Purchased through the trust thirty years earlier.

"What is there?"

Peter went pale.

“Robert’s reserve.”

Not Andrew's central reserve.

Robert's original.

The place where the first generation stored physical assets that did not fit anywhere else.

Cash.

Original deeds.

Possibly recordings.

Maybe Peter’s earliest evidence.

And perhaps something Rebecca needed badly enough to become my mother on paper.

Then Marquez received a call.

Andrew's vehicle had been found.

Abandoned near a river south of Columbus.

Blood inside.

A black onyx ring on the driver's seat.

No body.

On the dashboard, one printed note.

TELL THOMAS WE'RE EVEN.

Signed:

R.V.

Rebecca had taken Andrew off the board.

Or wanted us to believe she had.

Either way, she was heading toward Pennsylvania under Evelyn
