the road.”

“And Richard giving instructions from somewhere else.”

Beatrice whispered, “Richard told me Thomas disappeared years ago.”

I looked at her.

“Apparently not.”

My phone vibrated again.

Another message.

This time only an address.

No explanation.

Grace read it.

“Do you know this place?”

Daniel searched it.

His face changed.

“What?”

“It’s an old commercial property.”

“Owned by whom?”

He looked at us.

“Vale Holdings.”

Julian stared at the address.

“That building was demolished.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“It was supposed to be.”

“It’s still there.”

I felt the shape of the next decision before anyone said it.

Grace did too.

“We do not go there alone.”

I nodded.

“No.”

I looked at Julian.

He stared at the address as if he had seen a ghost.

“You know what’s there.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

His eyes stayed on the screen.

Finally he whispered, “My father used to meet Thomas there.”

“When?”

“After Cedar Ridge collapsed.”

“How often?”

“I don’t know.”

I almost smiled at the familiar answer.

But this time, he continued.

“And once after Michael died.”

The room went silent.

I stared.

“You saw Richard meet Thomas after Michael died?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“Three days later.”

“The day Pike received twenty-five thousand dollars?”

Julian’s face changed.

“I never connected that.”

Daniel looked at the payment record.

“Same day.”

Everything seemed to align at once.

Thomas Vale.

Ramon Pike.

Richard Harrington.

A payment.

A meeting.

And Michael dead on a mountain road.

Grace called Detective Chen.

I stood beside the table, listening to her explain the address and the recording.

When she finished, she looked at me.

“They’re sending a unit.”

I nodded.

Then she added quietly.

“They want Richard brought in immediately.”

Across the room, Beatrice closed her eyes.

Julian stared at nothing.

And I understood that by the end of the day, the Harrington family might lose far more than a company.

<a
