attention.

LAKE GENEVA INCIDENT.

I felt cold.

The shooting.

Maybe.

But the date on the folder was sixteen years earlier.

Thomas’s confrontation.

Agents opened it.

Lillian had not been present.

Henry had received information later.

The folder contained photographs of Thomas after the me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you kept trying to leave.”

“Sounds familiar,” Claire said from the doorway.

She afraid.

Lillian’s file contained one more item.

A statement from Victor written years later.

Victor frowned.

“I never gave your mother a statement.”

Lillian smiled faintly.

“No. Henry recorded you.”

The statement described the Lake Geneva aftermath.

Victor believed Charles ordered the shooting that injured Thomas.

But Graham Holt arrived afterward and insisted Thomas be kept alive.

Why?

Because Thomas possessed copies of Bellweather records.

If he died, those records would be released.

“So they negotiated,” Daniel said.

“Yes.”

Thomas had forgotten one crucial piece.

He arranged a accepted the insult.

The file named the lawyer holding Thomas’s backup records.

Stephen Holt.

Graham’s son.

Charles’s future law said, “If Stephen kept my backup evidence there, it could duplicate half of this.”

“Why would that matter if we have Lillian’s archive?”

Eleanor answered.

“Chain of custody.”

Independent copies created decades ago could prove records weren’t fabricated later.

That mattered enormously.

Daniel
