automatically the stage for every unresolved relationship.

By afternoon, the lodge became loud.

Children played cards.

Adults argued about old photographs.

Marcus noticed how nobody rushed to fill it.

No one needed every chair occupied to prove unity.

People came and went.

Some stayed one hour.

Some stayed two days.

Aunt Linda left before dessert because of a headache.

Nobody accused her of rejecting family.

Ben disappeared to watch a game.

Nobody called him selfish.

Participation had become less moralized.

That was healthier than any perfect group photograph.

Then Alicia announced a photo.

Everyone face.

It was imperfect.

Incomplete.

Real.

I saved it.

Then I drove the rest of the way to the cabin.

When I reached the gate, I unlocked it myself.

I drove through.

I closed it behind me.

The porch light came on automatically.

Inside, the green sofa waited.

The family reunion had happened
