villain.”

I hated that he kept finding accurate sentences inside monstrous behavior.

“What do you want?”

“To surrender.”

This time no qualification.

No bargaining phrase.

Just surrender.

Reyes stepped closer.

“Location.”

Keene ignored her.

“Susan.”

“What?”

“Before I come in, ask William who chose the Price family.”

My pulse quickened.

I looked at William’s screen.

His face went blank.

“Dad?”

The old name came out before I could stop it.

William closed his eyes.

Keene said softly, “He knew exactly where that baby went.”

The line disconnected.

Everyone looked at William.

The man who raised me.

The man who later built the trust meant to expose the system.

He had been inside it from the beginning.

“William,” my mother whispered.

He opened his eyes.

Tears ran down his face.

“Yes.”

“You chose Samuel.”

“Yes.”

Samuel stood so quickly his chair fell backward.

“You gave me Leonard.”

William’s voice cracked.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you were investigating us.”

The room went utterly silent.

Samuel stared.

William continued.

“I thought if you had a child, you would leave the case.”

Samuel looked as if someone had struck him.

“You used a baby to stop a federal investigation.”

“Yes.”

“Did it work?”

William looked at Leonard’s hospital feed.

“For a while.”

Samuel’s face collapsed.

Everything Keene had said about William’s continued involvement suddenly looked different.

The trust might have been confession.

But confession had come after years of calculated harm.

And now the first Prague record had exposed something none of us expected.

The investigator’s family had been engineered too.

Click here to continue reading: PART 25: William’s Admission Turned
